# Enlog Electrical Tools — electrical terms + calculators (India)

Hub: https://www.enlog.co.in/electrical-tools

This page contains:
- Electrical terms used in India (LT panel, MD, sanctioned load, PF, kVAh, net metering, prepaid metering).
- Quick calculators for field and billing work.

## Calculators

### 1) kW ↔ kVA (Power Factor)

Formulas:
- kW = kVA × PF
- kVA = kW ÷ PF

Use cases:
- DG sizing, transformer sizing, incomer sizing, and checking how PF affects kVA demand.

### 2) kWh → Bill estimate (₹)

- “Units” usually means kWh.
- Bill (energy charge) ≈ kWh × tariff (₹/kWh)

Note: Fixed charges, demand charges, taxes and TOD slabs vary by DISCOM.

### 3) kWh ↔ kVAh (kVAh formula)

Approximation:
- kVAh ≈ kWh ÷ PF

If PF is low, kVAh billed can be higher than kWh.

### 4) DG “units produced per litre” (diesel genset efficiency)

Measured formula:
- kWh/L = load_kW ÷ diesel_L_per_hour
- L/kWh = 1 ÷ (kWh/L)

## Electrical terms (quick definitions)

- **kW**: real power (useful power).
- **kVA**: apparent power (sizing).
- **PF (power factor)**: kW/kVA.
- **kWh (unit)**: energy.
- **kVAh**: apparent energy (billing on many commercial connections).
- **kVAr / kVArh**: reactive power/energy (PF related).
- **LT panel**: low tension panel (typically 415V distribution).
- **HT panel**: high tension switchgear (typically 11kV/33kV incoming).
- **MD (maximum demand)**: peak demand in a billing period.
- **PFC / capacitor bank**: equipment for power factor correction.
- **Sub-metering**: room/tenant/feeder level metering (PG/co-living, retail, factories).
- **Prepaid metering**: pay-before-use billing on sub-meters (common in PG/hostel/co-living).
- **Net metering**: rooftop solar export/import settlement (policy depends on DISCOM/state).
